#Top25of2015 GymJams Countdown #1: KOLAJ. The Touch. #GymJam #burn #indie

What We Said Then:

Kolaj have a hit on their hands. Dancey enough to satisfy the EDM crowd, and pop enough to sound at home on Top 40 radio, this SoCal duo of Mighty Mike (production) and Tessa (vocals) are making music for the radio, club and gym!

What We Say Now:

At first they wowed us with “The Touch” in July, then killed it with an August cover of The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” that made us almost forget the original. “The Touch” made it to #2 on our Songs Of The Summer 2015 list. Just when you thought they would end the year on a high note with the #18 on our Top 25 of 2105 list Kaskade collaboration “Whatever”, their cover of Adele’s “Hello” comes out of nowhere (we’ll be featuring that soon!). Whatever 2016 holds for KOLAJ, we are more than ready to take it all in.

#Top25of2015 GymJams Countdown #2: NORDE. Every Single Night. #gymjam #burn #lift #indie

What We Said Then:

Swedish singer/songwriter Norde mixes electronic elements with thoughtful lyrics to create an amazing sound. He’s written and produced for other artists, and now working on his own material. Great start!

What We Say Now:

This song is amazing. We first posted in May about what has become a global smash. It’s gotten play on main stages of festivals around the world by superstars of the dance music community. In November the official video for “Every Single Night” debuted. The unique visuals made an impressive song even better. One listen and you’ll know why this was #1 on the Songs Of The Summer 2105 list. 2016 will be Norde’s year!

#Top25of2015 Gymjams #3. The Knocks. Collect My Love. Featuring Alex Newell. #gymjam #burn #indie

What We Said Then:

If you like nu-disco, you’re welcome. If you’re new to it, this is the perfect track to introduce you to the genre. It has all the fun of disco with a dash of house thrown in. NYC musicians and producers The Knocks team up with Alex Newell (aka Unique from TV’s ‘Glee’) for a roof-raising, high energy romp. Funk? Check. Bass? Check. Diva Wails? Oh yeah. Add “Collect My Love” to your gym playlist NOW! From the forthcoming ‘So Classic’ EP.

What We Say Now:

Fierce! We’ve come to expect nothing less than perfection from the Knocks. As examples, see “So Classic”, “Dancing With Myself” and “I Wish (Taylor Swift)” among others. As great as the song is, it’s the night-in-the-life video with Alex Newell, female impersonators, a choir (!!!) and starring none other than New York City that makes the track even better. Their album drops in 2016, and it’s sure to be a must-have. Be sure to check out Alex’s version of Sigma’s “Nobody To Love” too!

#Top25of2015 GymJams #4: Eau Claire. How Sweet It Is. Marvin Gaye. Eau Claire Remix. #gymjam #burn #indie

What We Said Then:

We recently featured Eau Claire’s jaw-droppingly awesome remix of Pink Feathers’ and Speak’s “The Feeling’s Gone” here. She’s back with a fresh-out-of-the-oven rework of the classic Marvin Gaye track, “How Sweet It Is”. Bubbling over with summery vibes and enthusiasm, if this doesn’t get you going, nothing will. When not DJ’ing in and around Washington, DC or performing with Duke Dumont, Tensnake and Pat Lok, she’s working on her upcoming EP. Seriously, #WeCantWait.

Get this track FREE (as of 12/25/15) by going to the above link and following instructions at Soundcloud.

What We Say Now:

I don’t think anyone’s had the kind of year Eau Claire has; far-away DJ gigs, remixing some of the hottest new bands around, opening for major headliners in DC and beyond, all the while staying grounded and accessible. We first heard of Eau Claire when she remixed Pink Feathers and Speak’s “The Feeling’s Gone” in February. She then went on to remix Golden Coast, Cappa, Saint Motel and PHASES among many others. Every one of these tracks is a winner. One things for sure…when you see Eau Claire attached to a remix, you know it’s going to be incredible.

#Top25of2015 GymJams #5: Goldroom. Fifteen/Embrace. #gymjam #burn #lift #yoga

What We Said Then:

Fifteen:

Another phenomenal track from Goldroom’s ‘It’s Like You Never Went Away’ EP. Featuring vocals from one of Australia’s newest and brightest stars Chela, “Fifteen” is a beautiful track for stretch routines, yoga and lifts…and the video captures the magic of being fifteen.

What We Say Now:

We couldn’t decide which we worked out to more this year; “Fifteen” and the delicate vocals of Chela, on top of the moody, atmospheric instrumentation by Goldroom, or the heavy beats and brilliant vocals by George Maple on “Embrace”. So we’re calling this an amazing tie! The entire “It’s Like You Never Went Away” short film is a beautiful way to experience Goldroom.

Embrace:

What We Said Then:

Embrace:

A beautifully complex song with lots of breaks and crescendos. LA’s Goldroom features the stellar vocals of Australian soul/pop singer George Maple on this classic rework. Some songs get even better after the workout; this is one of them.

What We Say Now:

We couldn’t decide which we worked out to more this year; “Fifteen” and the delicate vocals of Chela, on top of the moody, atmospheric instrumentation by Goldroom, or the heavy beats and brilliant vocals by George Maple on “Embrace”. #Top25of2015 GymJams #6: Lyel. Waterproof. #gymjam #lift #indie

What We Said Then:

Helsinki artist Lyel lays her delicate voice over even more delicate instrumentals to create glistening indiepop. Definitely one to watch!

What We Say Now:

We loved this track from the get-go in May, and even more in August when the whimsical official video dropped. Not your typical Lift track, but that melody is incredible. Big things to come in 2016 from Lyel!

#Top25of2015 GymJams #7. Wolfside. Dreamgirl. #gymjam #burn #indie

What We Said Then:

East Coast/West Coast band Wolfside are “two wolves, one sound to make you dance”. We think it’s working with “Dreamgirl”! We’ve had it on repeat since getting the single at Bandcamp. Can’t wait from more from this exciting new band.

What We Say Now:

Since stumbling upon this track in July, we still can’t get enough of “Dreamgirl”. This track can propel you through the hardest workout with a smile on your face. Wolfside’s indie double album is coming in 2016, and we can’t wait!!!!

#Top25of2015 GymJams #8: Major Lazer & DJ Snake. Lean On. Featruring MØ. #gymjam #lift

What We Said Then:

A side project of mega producer Diplo, Major Lazer brings trademark global dance rhythms to India for the “Lean On” video. Accompanied by DJ Snake (Of “Turn Down For What” fame) and vocals by MØ, this beautiful track-both visually and musically-is a treat. A great taste of what’s to come from he forthcoming album ‘Peace Is The Mission’.

What We Say Now:

Spoiler Alert: This may be the most mainstream track we feature on our countdown. We tend to gravitate towards indie artists, but this song is just so MASSIVE that we had to. Hard to beleive we first posted in march about “Lean On”, but that’s staying power. This was also a Songs Of Summer 2015 feature, since it dominated the airwaves then. Major Lazer’s had a few other tracks appear here: “Powerful” and “Light It Up”. MØ’s also appeared with “Kamikazee” in October. They’ve definitely set the bar high for thier 2016!

#Top25of2015 GymJams #9: Roses. Beautifully Broken. #gymjam #burn #indie

What We Said Then:

Ever flip through music and find a track that just takes over your day? We haven’t in a while, but did juts that with Roses (aka Rose Ranger). This Vancouver-based singer just released the amazing single “Beautifully Broken”, a stunning electro-pop jam that should be on every playlist. She has a great back catalog of more guitar-pop songs, but this is definitely a new direction that we’re glad she’s taken. We can’t wait for more from Roses!!! Enjoy “Beautifully Broken”!

What We Say Now:

Since we posted this in April, this track still gets a great reaction on GymJams.club…and our playlists. If you’re looking for a power song to finish your workout to, here you go. Thanks Rose for a brilliant track!!!

#Top25of2015 GymJams #10. HAERTS. Hemiplegia. #gymjam #lift #burn

What We Said Then:

Brooklyn-based HAERTS has a way with melancholy lyrics and breathtaking music. Hemiplegia is no exception. The powerful, building chorus hits you, as does the cautious breakdown of ‘you can’t move up with your eyes down’. From their late 2014 self titles release. While we wait for (hopefully) an official video, let this one be your introduction.

What We Say Now:

Still an amazing song since being posted as an early GymJam in February. Stunning vocals, writing and production. This song just sucks you in…and that’s a good thing. While we never found an official video, check out this live version to show you that HAERTS are legit!
